MEET THE STAFF

Karen Burke-Haynes, MD, FAAP
Karen Burke-Haynes, MD, FAAP earned her undergraduate degree from Trinity College in Connecticut and her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Rochester, New York. She served her internship and residency in pediatrics at Strong Memorial Hospital in New York State. Dr. Haynes is Board Certified in Pediatrics and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Haynes has practiced in a variety of settings, including the Cornell Medical Center and Montefiore Medical Center of New York and has served as the medical director of the New York Children’s Health Project, caring for disadvantaged children. Dr. Haynes relocated to Raleigh in 1993. She has worked with the Carolina Permanente Medical Group and in private practice. Dr. Haynes is on staff at Wake Medical Center and Rex Hospital.

Sarath Dommaraju, MD, FAAP (photo coming soon)
Dr. Sarath Dommaraju is Board Certified and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Dommaraju graduated from Sri Venkatesvara Medical College, India. He left to Jamaica, W.I., where he worked and practiced Ob/Gyn and Surgery for 10 years. He garnered a number of awards including "Best Doctor" and "Best Employee" of the year. Dr. Dommaraju then relocated to the US and pursued his career in Pediatrics. He graduated from The Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York, where he had the opportunity to work in various specialties within Pediatrics.
Prior to establishing his practice, Dr. Dommaraju was part of a group practice at The Laurel Pediatric and Adolescent Clinic, as well as an Attending Physician at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, MS for about 2 years. He is a member of a number of professional organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Medical Association. Dr. Dommaraju with his tremendous experience looks forward to and proud to be serving the Triangle area.

Alyssa Hoffmann, PNP
Alyssa Hoffmann is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner who is "very excited" to join the Stepping Stones Pediatrics' family. She is a recent graduate from Duke University's Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program and is certified through the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board. During her studies at Duke, she was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and was awarded the 20090 North Carolina NAPNAP scholarship. She is a current member of the National Association of Nurse Practitioners. Alyssa received her BSN and ADN at the University of Pittsburgh and has been a Pediatric Nurse over the past eight years.
Alyssa was born and raised in Bradford, Pennsylvania and relocated to Raleigh in 1996. She and her husband, Mark, have been married for over 12 years and have 2 children, Madison and Michael. She enjoys photography, gardening, and spending her time with her family and 2 dogs, Sabrina & Lacy Mae.

Janie Oliphant, RN
Janie Joined Stepping Stones Pediatrics in February, 2010. She attended nursing school in her home state of Ohio and graduated in 1986. She and her family have enjoyed living in Raleigh for the past 11 years after traveling around the counrty with the USAF and now calls Raleigh home. Her nursing career has consisted of Med/Surg to Pediatrics. Janie enjoys spending time with her family, gardening and being outdoors.

Tracey Fisher, Practice Manager
Tracey joined the Stepping Stones team in March 2008. She was born in Jersey City, NJ and raised in Jacksonville, NC. She has been living in Raleigh since 1995. Tracey attended NC State University and is a die hard Wolfpack fan GO STATE!.
Before coming to Stepping Stones, Tracey was a District Manager for General Nutrition Center. She enjoys spending time with her husband, chilling out by the water, whether beach or pool, and cooking and entertaining with friends and family.

Jane Hayes, Front Office Coordinator
Jane has worked for Stepping Stones for two years. She grew up in Chesapeake, Virginia and attended Radford College. She has lived in Wake Forest, North Carolina for fourteen years. Jane enjoys sewing, shopping, and spending time with her family. Jane has one grown daughter and has been married for thirty years.

Karen Harris, Front Office Coordinator
Karen joined the team at Stepping Stones Pediatrics in July 2008. She has worked in Administration for 15 years. Karen has 10 years of experience with serving children and families at Staten Island Mental Health/Head Start as a Family Assistant/Family Worker. The other five years have been as an Administrative Assistant with companies in New York. She relocated from New York in July 2005.
Before coming to Stepping Stones, she worked as a preschool co-teacher for three years. Karen enjoys serving the children and families at Stepping Stones. She is a mother of four children and three grandchildren. “I am thankful to be a part of the team. A healthy child is a happy child. Take your next step with us.”

Natalia Smith, Front Office Coordinator
Natalia is a student in attending Peace College. Her goal is to become an Ob-Gyn Nurse Practitioner. She enjoys spending time with her fiancé and their two beautiful daughters, Kalia and Caila.

Katie Humber, Front Office Coordinator
Katie joined Stepping Stones Pediatrics in November of 2009. She attended Meredith College and graduated with a BS in Family and Consumer Sciences in 2005. Katie enjoys renovating her historic home with her husband Cary, shopping with her mother, and frequent trips to the dog park with her 110lb Great Dane named Peju.
